On Adding a Large Aquarium to My House

posted on 12 February 2012

We all love to do a bit of DIY in our house when we have time - a recent job of adding new curtains - with velcro fasteners - was my most recent job. And yet....and yet....I have one bigger dream that's much harder to fulfill. I personally have always been a huge fan of fish. Fish are beautiful, interesting, and come in an amazing variety of forms and colors, and these can all be found at any pet store carrying aquatic animals. Something I would like to add to my house, is a large aquatic display, containing many different color varieties and species of fish. I would plan for this, buy a very large glass aquarium, and prepare to build this aquarium, into the side of one of my rooms, so that it actually appears to be part of a wall. This would go into perhaps my kitchen, or bedroom, so they could be viewed by myself and any other members or visitors of my household at any time of the day.

Moving House: I Forgot I Still Had That

Moving is exciting in theory. Being in a new place, with new people doing new things. A person can sometimes forget that the physical manifestation of moving is rigorous and back breaking. I'm used to hard work - I clean underground oil tanks for a living - but moving house always presents you with surprises and extra work. When I moved from Illinois to North Carolina, it was a headache. It's amazing what a single woman in a one room flat can accumulate. Before I could begin to pack I had to organize and de-clutter the entire space. I started with donations. If I hadn’t messed with any object in 6 months of more, it went immediately into the first sort pile. From there I decided if the item would be easily sold in a yard sale, or if I should donate it to save the time. Who wants to buy a slinky for $1? It took a week to get everything sorted and either taken to the local shelter or put in my storage unit for the upcoming yard sale. The big cleanup was worth it because I was able to downgrade the size of my moving truck, saving me a ton of money!
